Engagement Survey FAQs
Why is the University sponsoring an Engagement Survey and what is engagement?
- Engagement has a few definitions, but the common link in these definitions is a sense of connection and commitment. President Shelton sponsored the survey because understanding the depth of commitment of the people who work here will help the University make informed decisions about how to support people to succeed. When members of an organization enjoy and believe in what they do and feel valued for doing it, their commitment to stay with that organization improves and they and the organization are more productive.
Who can participate in the survey?
- All benefits-eligible employees (does not include clinical assistants/post docs) with more than six months service and active University email accounts have been invited to participate.
Who is conducting the survey and is the survey confidential?
- The survey is conducted by The Corporate Leadership
Council, a global human resources research firm whose work in
employee engagement is researched-based and well-respected (www.corporateleadershipcouncil.com).
The survey is confidential. The Corporate Leadership Council
will report aggregate results without any personal identifying
information.
Why was this survey used?
- This survey has been used hundreds of times with a wide variety of public and private sector employers and by using it, we can compare our data against the database of responses held by the vendor. In addition, it is a survey that measures the top critical factors of engagement - those that produce the biggest change in employee commitment.
Why do some of the questions seem repetitive?
- The questions are similarly worded, but ask about different perspectives. For example, there are three values questions and each one is meant to measure how much connection the individual perceives between three different entities - the University, the supervisor and the work group. In order to do a good comparison between these different entities, the questions are similarly worded for analytical consistency.
What if I cannot easily find my role?
- The list of roles is fairly comprehensive, but if you don't find a descriptor quickly, please review the descriptors and find the best fit possible in these circumstances. You can send suggestions for improvements to us and we will review them for future surveys.
How long is the survey open?
- The survey may be accessed through midnight Sunday, December 9.
Who will receive the results?
- When the results are analyzed, they will be presented to University senior leadership and to the University community.
