Purpose of Classification:
Supervises a custodial crew engaged in the cleaning operations of a section of the university.

Distinguishing Characteristics:
This is third in a series of five classifications. This classification typically reports to the Custodial Services Assistant Supervisor.

Example of Duties:
  • Supervises two or more full-time employees, or their equivalent, on a regular basis.
  • Makes decisions regarding hiring, evaluation, promotion and termination of employees, or makes related recommendations that are given particular weight.
  • Schedules work to meet normal requirement without interfering with residents or occupants of office space.
  • Directs workers performing cleaning tasks.
  • Develops and participates in a training program which familiarizes custodial staff with particular problems involved in custodial services including improved techniques.
  • Inspects buildings, rooms, storage space, hallways, fixtures and custodial equipment to observe the results of work.
  • Requisitions appropriate materials and supplies.
  • Prepares and submits appropriate reports and memoranda regarding custodial policies and procedures.
  • Recommends budget, materials and equipment for the area.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of cleaning standards and techniques.
  • Knowledge of equipment and material usage and maintenance.
  • Skill in supervising the work activities of assigned staff.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Four years of custodial and/or housekeeping experience which included one year in a lead capacity; OR,
    • Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.
