Leadership Coaching

In support of continuous leadership development, the University has selected seven leadership coaches through a competitive RFP process who are available to the University community. Leadership coaching is designed to enhance the effectiveness of high potential and high performing administrators, managers, and faculty members. During sessions, leadership coaches help clients gain clarity about their strengths and areas for growth, establish leadership-related goals, and identify specific steps to take in between sessions to move toward those goals. Leadership coaches are skilled in listening, asking the right questions, and providing support and accountability.

Departments may contract with any of the coaches listed below, whose fees range from $150-350 an hour. The number and length of sessions will vary depending on the needs of the client and will be negotiated with each coach. Diane Brennan

Diane-BrennanDiane Brennan is President of Brennan Associates; an Arizona based coaching and consulting company since 2000. Providing services internationally, Diane is a leadership development and executive coach, consultant, trainer, and author. Her areas of expertise include strategic thinking, navigating challenge and change, strengthening leadership, team development, and creating a learning culture within organizations. Diane's clients are individuals and teams in academics, aerospace, engineering, healthcare, science, and technology. She also serves as the coach for NASA's Systems Engineering Leadership Development Program (SELP) and the University of Arizona College of Medicine's Learning to Lead Program.

Diane holds an MBA, ICF Master Certified Coach designation, and is a board certified medical practice executive and fellow in the Medical Group Management Association's American College of Medical Practice Executives. She has authored several articles and book chapters related to coaching and co-edited, The handbook of knowledge-based coaching (2011) and The philosophy and practice of coaching (2008). She is a past-president of the International Coach Federation (2008), the association for professional coaches with over 19,000 members in 100 countries.

In addition to coaching, Diane brings 20+ years of solid, hands-on working experience with executives, managers, physicians and teams. She began her career in healthcare at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA where she held positions in Nursing Management, Management Engineering, and Hospital Administration. Moving to Tucson, Arizona in 1991, Diane held senior executive positions in physician group practice and health plan administration for private and publicly traded organizations through 2000.

Deborah Bright

Deborah-Bright.jpgIn 1975, Dr. Deborah Bright founded Bright Enterprises, a New York City based consulting firm whose sole mission is the development of individual potential. Dr. Bright recently moved Bright Enterprises to Tucson where she continues to work with Administrators from Universities, and hospital settings to many of the top Fortune 100 companies ranging from Morgan Stanley and Chase to SAIC and Raytheon. In each case, she continues to custom design licensed training programs and coach their top executives.

Dr. Bright began her career in academia as a member of the faculty at Wayne State University and New York University where she taught courses on leadership, stress management, effective communications, and change management. Dr. Bright received her doctorate in Adult Education from Arizona State University.

As a bestselling author, Dr. Bright has been fortunate to have books published on leadership, communication, teamwork, stress management, and personal performance enhancement. All of her books are based on original research conducted by Bright Enterprises in collaboration with other organizations including American Management Association (AMA) and American Society for Training & Development (ASTD).

Most recently, Dr. Bright concluded an extensive, 7-year study entitled the Strategies for Enhancing Performance program. Findings from the experimental/control design study have been published in the October 2011 issue of Nursing Management and the March 2012 issue of Coaching: An International Journal of Theory, Research and Practice. Dr. Bright is a contributing author in a new book on Talent Management that is due for release in July 2013 which features the Strategies for Enhancing Performance program.

Linda Dewey

Linda-Dewey.jpgLinda Dewey helps foster her clients' success by helping them to create a clear vision, and consistently express it, as they progress towards their goals. Over the years, she has coached hundreds of individuals as they explored new opportunities, honed their communication skills and became more effective leaders. Linda leads workshops on a variety of career management and leadership topics. She also writes resumes, bios and website content that position her clients in the marketplace.

Early in her career, Linda was a project director and consultant, specializing in analytical and financial systems for GE Information Systems and Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company. She then transitioned into instructional design, creating educational materials for clients as they implemented mission critical systems. She was also an instructor of Managerial Communications and an Academic Advisor at Central Connecticut State University.

Linda holds an MBA from New York University, earned certification as a Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC) from the Coaches Training Institute and is qualified to deliver and interpret the Myers Briggs Temperament Indicator (MBTI). She is a past president of the Tucson chapter of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) and still an active member.

Kevin Herring

Kevin-Herring.jpgKevin Herring has more than twenty-five years of experience crossing a broad spectrum of industries in organization problem solving, leadership coaching, performance turnarounds, and innovative workforce management.

An expert in organization performance, diagnosis and problem solving, Kevin has successfully coached more than 100 leaders from board members and executives to mid-level managers to identify and remove personal and organizational barriers to success. He has led dozens of successful turnarounds of executive teams, workgroups, and entire business units.

Prior to consulting, Kevin led major performance leadership initiatives at Baker Hughes, Magma Copper Company, BHP Copper, and Unisource Energy. At Magma, Kevin obtained world-class experience as he led the world's largest underground copper mine nearing the end of its existence through a turnaround that drastically cut production costs without layoffs. Magma was recognized by Harvard Business School in a video production depicting its innovative workforce strategy, radical union-management partnership, and remarkable business success.

Kevin has authored over one hundred articles on leadership, management innovation, and workforce strategy and has been quoted or published in CFO, Forbes, HR Executive, Talent Management, Workforce Management, Human Capital, and other notable journals. He is a keynote speaker at various national and international industry association conferences in the U.S. and Canada.

Kevin holds a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management from the University of Illinois and dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Japanese from the University of Minnesota.

Todd Linaman

Todd-Linaman.jpgDr. Todd Linaman is a licensed psychologist, a licensed marriage and family therapist and an experienced speaker on personal and professional development issues. As President of Relational Advantage, Inc., Dr. Linaman provides executive coaching, consultation and training to individual professionals and organizations throughout the United States.

Dr. Linaman has extensive business and professional experience. He served as the Vice President of a multi-state network of mental health clinics as well as the Vice President of a national non-profit educational media corporation.

Todd has worked extensively with executives, business owners and other professionals in his practice during the last twenty years. Todd is a national conference and seminar speaker and has authored numerous articles on personal and professional development topics. Todd has been featured as a relationship expert on national and local radio talk shows and local television news programs.

Todd's latest book is Lessons Learned Looking Back: Strategies for Successful Living, published by Broadman and Holman. He has also produced several audio resources including Communication in the Workplace, Keeping the Family Together in the Family Business, Developing Your Relational Advantage and Getting Along With Difficult People.

Todd earned a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Arizona, an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Azusa Pacific University; and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The Fielding Graduate University.

Suzanne McFarlin

Suzanne-McFarlin.jpgSuzanne McFarlin is a Board Certified Coach specializing in executive and leadership coaching. Suzanne studied and became a certified coach with Dr. Martha Beck, best-selling author of Finding Your Own North Star. She also earned the International Coach Federation Associate Certified Coach credential. Through the American Society for Training and Development, she received professional certificates for training services. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Communication from the University of Michigan. At the University of Arizona, she is a Professional Leadership Coach, has served as a career coach and instructed MBA students in Management Communication at the Eller College of Management. She is a leadership coach at Raytheon Missile Systems and executive director of Greater Tucson Leadership, a community leadership program.

Suzanne brings outstanding interpersonal, presentation, networking and leadership skills to self-directed projects in industry, service and academics. She is experienced in executive coaching, professional training, and leadership development marked by creative, detail-oriented processes and outcomes. She builds connections with innovation and impact to enable individuals and groups to prosper and grow.

A combination of life experience, education and work history shaped Suzanne's coaching and consulting practice. The ability and inability of people to handle change intrigues and challenges Suzanne to use her best skills to help a client shape his/her future. She is also fascinated with human potential and the spirit it takes to maximize it. Her style reflects a balance between intuition and practicality, in the various methods and techniques she uses to help people achieve their best.​

Mike Vandermar

Vandermark is a consultant and coach who works in collaboration with Traaen and Associates, Inc., a professional consulting firm providing executive and managerial coaching, organization development consultation, individual assessment services, and training and development programs. Throughout the past 25 years Dr. Vandermark has coached over 250 individuals working in private, federal government, educational, municipal and corporate settings, including executives leading Fortune 100 organizations.

Dr. Vandermark is the author of Coaching Conversations, a program provided to those interested in a creative and semi-structured coaching approach based on principles and practices of industrial-organizational psychology. As an 8-step program, Coaching Conversations has developed a scientifically validated track record of positive results, specifically related to attitude change, goal clarification, use of behavior change tools, and dealing with stalled progress.

Dr. Vandermark's coaching experience began in 1993 as a career coach for Drake Beam Morin (DBM), one of the world's largest Human Resources consulting firms. While at DBM, he provided coaching aimed at career development, competency modeling, personality assessment, interpersonal skill development, and an array of consultation services related to organization development and change. In 1996 he began his private practice as an industrial-organizational psychologist, author, speaker, coach, and educator. He continues his work today throughout the US and Europe. He is a former USAF pilot and airline pilot for US Airways and was recently featured as a subject matter expert in People v. the State of Illusion, a full-length motion picture documentary presently being distributed throughout the US and via PBS.​
