Update on Contract Negotiations between United Healthcare and Northwest Allied Physicians

We are writing to provide an update on the status of contract negotiations between United Healthcare (UHC) and Northwest Allied Physicians.  As you may know, Northwest Allied Physicians’ contract as a provider with UHC was set to expire on April 30, 2017.

Unfortunately, an agreement on a new contract was not reached, and consequently, effective May 1, 2017, Northwest facilities and physicians* are out-of-network providers. Although discussions are ongoing, the termination of the existing contract means that your current out-of-pocket costs will be higher when you visit these healthcare providers.

Under plan rules, the loss of a physician network is not a qualified reason to change insurance providers outside of the Benefits Open Enrollment period. However, if you are currently undergoing a course of treatment from a Northwest provider for pregnancy or a covered medical condition, you can request to continue your treatment with your Northwest provider and receive in-network benefits. To request this transition of care allowance:

  • If you are enrolled in the United Healthcare EPO or PPO Plans, contact Andrea Helgeson at 602-364-4891, andrea_k_helgeson@uhc.comor Daniel Rusnac at 602-364-4010, Daniel.Rusnac@uhc.com.
  • If you are enrolled in the UA Alternative Medical Plan for Domestic Partners, call the Customer Service phone number on the back of your insurance card.

During Benefits Open Enrollment in October, you will have the opportunity to change insurance providers to one contracted with Northwest Physicians. This change in insurance providers would be effective on January 1, 2018.
