Purpose of Classification:

Provides overall administrative management and coordination of various business-related functions in the Department of Surgery, including finance, budgeting, human resources, graduate medical education, asset management, grants administration, and policy interpretation and dissemination.

Example of Duties:

  • Manages the business office, including faculty affairs, faculty recruitment, and other human resources functions
  • Plans and oversees short-term and long-term departmental budget
  • Manages state funds, commitments, and endowment income
  • Advises on strategies for supporting programmatic missions
  • Reviews and approves grant proposals
  • Provides administrative oversight for research compliance, conflict of interest, and research space allocation
  • Interacts with chairperson, division chiefs, and staff to facilitate daily operations, accomplish goals, and resolve problems
  • Represents the department in meetings and other venues relating to UA business and administrative matters
  • Supervises staff

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with more than 8 years of directly comparable experience; OR master's degree with 5 to 8 years of directly comparable experience
