E-Verify Resumes Operations

Jan. 28, 2019

We are pleased to announce that E-Verify has resumed operations.  Department/College Form I-9 and E-Verify Approvers should resume E-Verify processing for all new hires within the standard 3-day window.

For all outstanding E-Verify cases impacted by the government partial shutdown:

  • E-Verify cases must be created for each employee hired while E-Verify was not available by no later than February 11, 2019.
  • Use the hire date from the employee’s Form I-9 when creating the E-Verify case. If the case creation date is more than three days following the date the employee began working for pay, select “Other” from the drop-down list and enter “E-Verify Not Available” as the specific reason.
  • Send a copy of the USCIS “Employment Authorized” E-Verify case results to Workforce Systems. Write the MSS New Hire transaction number or Emplid in the upper right hand corner for reference. Shred extra copies of I-9 supporting documents after E-Verify is completed.

For the most recent Form I-9 and E-Verify post shutdown guidance, including instructions for Tentative Nonconfirmations, see USCIS's announcement E-Verify Resumes Operation for more information.
