University Staff Pay Structure

Jobs within the University’s career architecture are reviewed annually. Recommendations and updates to pay grades within the structure are made in accordance with external market data.

In addition, local, state or federal legislation regarding labor laws (e.g., minimum wage increases) can prompt structural reviews and new strategic initiatives.

July 1, 2023 - The FY 2024 pay structure was updated to reflect the University's new minimum wage and related compression adjustments. Learn more about the July 1 minimum wage increase.

  • Annual salary to hourly wage conversion is based upon a 2,080 hours per work year (Learn more in the FAQ)
  • In accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act, employees must meet the salary threshold and duties test to be salaried (exempt).

Frequently Asked Questions

Transitioning from salaried (exempt) to hourly (non-exempt)

Fiscal Year Calculation:
Annualized Salary/2,080 hours

Academic Year Calculation:
Annualized Salary/1,600 hours

Example:
A 1.0 FTE academic-year employee is salaried (exempt) at $50,000. They are transitioning to hourly (non-exempt). 

$50,000 / 1,600 hours = Hourly rate of $31.25

Transitioning from hourly (non-exempt) to salaried (exempt)

Fiscal Year Calculation:
Hourly Rate * 2,080 hours * FTE

Academic Year Calculation:
Hourly Rate * 1,600 hours * FTE

Example:
A 1.0 FTE fiscal-year employee is hourly (non-exempt) at $32.00/hour. They are transitioning to salaried (exempt)

$32.00 * 2,080 hours * 1.0 FTE = Salary of $66,560

Use the calculations provided in the first FAQ to determine pay rate for an employee on an academic year position.

This chart uses 2,080 hours as a standard. However, the number of hours in a fiscal year may change each July 1, based on the number of regular workdays occurring between July 1 and June 30 of that year. Depending on the number of hours in a given fiscal year, an employee's salary may be spread across 26.0, 26.1 or 26.2 pay periods.
