A leave of absence (LOA) allows employees facing extraordinary circumstances to take a prolonged period off work. This leave can be paid or unpaid and differs from vacation or paid time off (PTO). Paid Time Off (PTO) is compensated time when the employee is absent from work. Paid sick time is used during periods of personal illness to seek medical services or to care for immediate family members who are ill. Vacation time refers to paid time off when an employee takes a break from work.

Leave of Absence Requests

Employees can request a leave of absence for Family Medical Leave (FML), Parental Leave, Military Training Leave, Extended Military Leave, Personal Leave (Staff), and Extended Personal Leave (Appointed) through a single, confidential Leave of Absence Request Form.
