Student Worker Minimum Wage Increasing in 2025

Dec. 12, 2024

The minimum wage for student workers at the University of Arizona will increase from $14.50 to $14.70 per hour in 2025. This increase matches the provisions of Arizona's Fair Wages and Healthy Families Act, which mandates annual minimum wage adjustments for most employers in Arizona. Although the Act does not apply to the U of A as a state employer, we voluntarily align with its conditions to remain competitive in recruitment and retention.

We encourage all departments and units to consider how the new minimum wage might impact their budgets. Departments are responsible for funding the minimum wage increases.

Who is affected?

All student workers who are paid less than $14.70 per hour.

When will this change take effect?

The pay increases will take effect with the pay period that begins on Dec. 23, 2024.

Student workers will see the minimum wage increase in their Jan. 10, 2025, paycheck.

What do business managers have to do?

To determine affected individuals in your unit, visit the Arizona State Minimum Wage dashboard in UAccess Analytics (“HR Medium” provisioning access is needed).

For current student workers - no action needed. Human Resources will complete necessary pay adjustments.

For future new student worker hires with an effective hire date of Dec. 23, 2024, or later - please ensure that they receive at least $14.70 per hour. Job postings should reflect the new rate.
