Temporary employment agencies play an important role in helping the University of Arizona fill short-term staffing needs. Please consult with Human Resources if your staffing need becomes longer term and a recruitment should be performed.
Current Contracts with Temporary Employment Agencies
The University has entered into contracts with 10 agencies to provide temporary staffing services. Under the contracts, departments will determine the hourly wage to be paid to a temporary worker. The staffing agency will add a fixed percentage markup to cover its costs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Under the temporary staffing contracts, departments will determine the hourly wage to be paid to a temporary worker. Based on that wage, the staffing agency will add a fixed percentage markup, depending on position type, to cover its costs. There also may be conversation fees associated with the agency.
Pricing details are listed for each contracted temporary employment agency in the Temporary Employment Agencies document (PDF).
As you evaluate pay options, here are some considerations to keep in mind:
- The current University minimum wage and pay ranges are posted on the Compensation page.
- You may use the University Staff pay ranges for guidance. Consider an hourly wage at which you would hire a new employee.
- If a temporary worker is replacing an incumbent employee and assuming all duties of the position, you could benchmark the pay rate against the incumbent’s wage.
- You can expect a higher pay rate if you require the temporary worker to have specific skills or training.
Departments may post and competitively recruit for a position currently filled by a temporary worker. However, some contracted agencies will charge a conversion fee to release their temp employee before a specified period has passed.
Temporary employees interested in working for the University may find all open positions and submit an application at Talent.arizona.edu. If they need access to a computer, some are available for this purpose in the Division of Human Resources office (University Services Building Room 114).
